We have secured a new LZ for the Mara Launch.
It is located at 7920 Vernon-Sicamous Hwy.
The owners are Heidi and Dave Green. They have graciously consented to landing on their property.
This LZ is suitable for both HG’s and PG’s
With that said they have a a few things that they would like us to keep in mind...
• Don’t land in the tall grass (this is a hay field) the north side of the field is generally dryer and thinner grass.
• Entrance is through a gate at the south side from the parking lot
• Please use the outhouses near the Saloon. They have children and neighbours.
• This couple also have camping and rentals available on site and they sell farm raised meat and other items lets support them as much as we can!

The questions that pilots get from the public are vast and varied. There is, however, some standard ones like the title of this article. Here is a great video that quickly and succinctly describes the 'thermals' that we use to gain elevation and why our vertical goal is 'cloudbase'.
Keep this one bookmarked on your phone.

There is also http://earth.nullschool.net/ which was the original tool and has a more uniform colour style.
On Mon our trip started in Edmonton with me (Evo) being logged in my XCskies and looking for potential good XC weather in the mountains and my brother driving. First target was Golden,BC but rainy weather slashed our XC dreams for next day. So we continued to long missed Okanagan.
Forecast was looking great for Lumby with excellent laps rate and wind direction for a potential flight to Revy. Between Revy and Vernon we were planning the flight and potential routes in regards to conditions. Arriving late in Kelowna went to bed tired but full of good dreams for next day.
Tues June 4-th woke up and looked outside. At 9am nice puffy cumulus clouds were building already. We loaded our gear and headed out to Coopers. By the way the day was looking our dreams for an epic flight were one step closer. We caught a ride with cool HG pilots at Randy's place and Fred was kind enough to drive the truck down. On launch there was 7-8 pilots waiting for conditions to pick up. By the time we got ready fairly good cycles started coming. We launched a bit after noon time. Alex on Gradient Avax XC3 (an classic EN-D wing) and me on my new baby Aircross U6 Comp wing(a second generation true 2 riser design).
Access to post on the blog can be requested from the Admin. All pilots and members are encouraged to sign up and post.
